QUESTIONS

I strongly encourage you to pick a few colors to coordinate with each other as a family. Try to stay away from black or a lot of dark colors as well as too many patterns.

Always consider your environment and think about where we’ll be shooting - for example, if we’re shooting in a green park, stay away from green tones so you don’t blend in with the background. A contrasting color against your backdrop always pops! When in doubt, neutral and earthy colors always photograph well as well.

What should we wear?

I always strive to capture relaxed group photos in a laid-back and informal way. My goal is to avoid stiff smiles and awkward poses, focusing instead on creating a comfortable atmosphere that brings out genuine laughter. For extended family sessions, I make it a priority to include group photos of smaller family units and sibling groups, along with some larger shots of everyone together.

Do you take traditional posed portraits?

I’ll always get in touch with you before your session to finalize details. This is also a good time to check the forecast. If the weather is calling for rain then I’m always happy to reschedule the session. The weather can make a huge difference to the photographs, so I’d usually recommend waiting for a better day.

What if it rains the day of our session?

Sessions are typically scheduled about two hours before sunset for the most flattering lighting.

What time of day are the sessions scheduled?

There really is no pressure on them and I never expect kids to sit perfectly and smile. If they really aren’t happy at any point, then I’m always happy to take a break, or change what we are doing and move to a more candid approach.

I’m all for a little bribery—promising ice cream afterward can work wonders for those who need extra encouragement! Treats during the session are absolutely fine, but please choose ones that won’t leave sticky or messy faces. Skittles or gummy candies are great options, but it’s best to avoid anything crumbly or chocolatey.

What if my children don’t cooperate during the session?

Your family’s health is just as important as the weather when planning a session. A sick or unhappy child often isn’t up for photos, and it’s tough on everyone involved. If your little ones start feeling unwell, please don’t hesitate to reach out—I’m happy to reschedule for the next available date.

Keep in mind that during busy seasons, finding a new time may take a bit longer, so the sooner you let me know, the better!

What if someone is sick?

Your session will be delivered in an online gallery via email in 2 weeks.

When will we receive our photos back?

Sessions typically take 60-90 minutes.
